Family & Personal Safety
Find practical information and resources for individuals and families facing difficult or unsafe situations. These resources can help you understand available support, protect children and family members, and know where to turn when safety is a concern.
01
Understanding Family Violence
Family violence can include physical, sexual, psychological, emotional or financial abuse, threats, controlling behaviour and other actions that cause harm or fear within a family or intimate relationship.
02
Support for Survivors of Violence
Ontario provides services for people experiencing domestic, intimate-partner or other forms of violence. Support may include crisis assistance, safety planning, counselling, referrals and help connecting with community services.
03
Protecting Children
In Ontario, suspected child abuse or neglect must be reported to a children’s aid society. If a child is in immediate danger, contact police or call 911.
04
Family Court & Legal Support
People experiencing domestic violence who are involved in family court may be able to receive help from a Family Court Support Worker. They can provide information about the court process, safety planning and connections to other services.
05
Finding a Safe Next Step
If you are concerned about your safety or the safety of someone in your family, seek support from an appropriate community, victim or legal service. If there is immediate danger, call 911. Ontario also provides victim-support services and information for people affected by violence or crime.
